28 Oct 2009 : Information for Graduating students Dear Parents of graduating children,

Congratulations! Your child, born in year 2003, will be graduating at the end of December 2009 and progressing to primary school, a new phase in his/her life. We have planned for a graduating ceremony on 5th December, 2009 (Saturday) from 2.00pm to 4.00pm. Details with regards to the graduation ceremony will be available to you soon and we trust it will be a proud moment for you.

Letter of Withdrawal
In order for a smooth transition and in line with MCYS' regulation, please forward us a letter of withdrawal dated at least 1 month prior to your child's withdrawal date. This is a necessary procedure for the refund of your one-month deposit placed in our care and for MCYS to make payment on subsidies. Please be reminded that school fees should continue to be paid for the final month here.

Student Care Programme
If you intend to place your child in our after-school student care programme (ie. children come to our school in the afternoon after attending Primary School in the morning) from January 2010 onwards, please inform us latest by 23 November, 2009 via email or letter as we have to seek approval for your child's enrolment from MCYS. As you are aware, our school do not specialize in Student Care programme and our limited vacancy in the programme is created to cater to children who have graduated from Halifax Montessori Childcare. We will not be offering before-school student care programme (ie. children attends our school in the morning before attending Primary School in the afternoon) due to lack of space.

On a daily basis, when the children arrive at our school, they will have lunch and shower independently. A dedicated teacher, Ms. Fiona, will supervise their school and homework and assist them in preparing for up-coming assessments, tests and examination. Afternoon snack will be served at 3.30pm and work will end at 5.00pm. After which, the children will enjoy 30 min's of outdoor play and thereafter, supervised free play indoors until they are picked up by their parents, latest by 7.00pm.

During MOE school holidays, children in our Student Care programme can attend our school on a full day basis (7.00am - 7.00pm). Appropriate holiday programmes will be planned for these children including night camp, excursion and project work. The teacher will communicate with parents whenever there are issues of concern regarding the child's work, progress and behaviour but there will not be any formal report or parents-teachers conference. We charge $400 per month per child for BASC program. The fee includes:

* lunch & afternoon snack
* shower
* dedicated class teacher to supervise school work
* outdoor play time (5.00pm - 5.30pm)
* Holiday program in March, June, September, November and December (full day including breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea)
You can visit our web site to have a glimpse of our year end holiday program for the BASC children in Newsletter Vol. 01/09 or click on the following link: Newsletter-0901.pdf

Our school is open from 7am to 7pm so the children can come in right after their school session or after CCA etc. We do not operate transport service but you can check with the bus operators at your child's primary school who may ply this route.

We look forward to hear from you. Thank you and best regards.

22 May,2009 - Payment of school fees via internet banking :

Dear Parents,

We are glad to inform that with immediate effect, you can make monthly payment of school fees via internet banking. This is not GIRO so there are no forms to fill. It is an alternative mode of payment in addition to the current cash or cheque payment and you can switch between the modes of payment at your own discretion.

To use internet banking, you must first set up the arrangement with your preferred and existing bank. Please contact our school's Administrator, Ms. Mala for our banking details.

This is not GIRO and payment will only be effected when you log-in and authorised the transaction. You are at liberty to switch between the different modes of payment (internet, cash or cheque) at your discretion and no forms need to be filled or letters written for not using the internet payment.

We hope this alternative mode of payment (internet banking) will help facilitate your busy lifestyle as some banks have the facility for recurring payment which once set up, will automatically deduct a pre-assigned amount from your account on the designated dates. Post-dated payment instruction is another useful feature for easy and convenience account management. It also eliminates cheque errors such as wrong date, signatory irregularity, spelling errors and defacing of cheques, leading to returned cheques which is time-consuming and an expensive affair (banks sometimes charge the cheque issuer up to $30 for returned cheques).

Thank you and best regards.

12 May,2009 - Advisory to Parents on Shared Responsibility to Prevent Spread of Infectious Diseases in Child Care Centres

Dear Parents,

As you may be aware, since 6 May 2009 Singapore commenced on the progressive stepping down of the Disease Outbreak Response System alert status from Orange
to Yellow. As of 11 May 2009, the alert status is Yellow.We thank you for your concerted efforts in preventing the spread of infectious diseases and in safeguarding the well-being of all the children in our school. Though a change in the alert status means a step down in monitoring requirements, we have to continue to be vigilant and maintain a hygienic and safe environment for our children.

The school will continue with daily temperature and visual checks of children at arrival and also during regular intervals during school hours. Children who seem and feel unwell will be asked to return home and should seek immediate medical attention, returning to school only upon certified fit for school by a medical practitioner. It would help if parents can take the children's temperature prior to coming to school and refrain from bringing children to school if they or any siblings are unwell. We urge parents whose children are absent from school to update us of the children's condition. Please keep your child at home if you or your child has travelled to affected areas/countries or countries with confirmed cases of Influenza A (H1N1-2009). Attached is an advisory by MCYS on the above subject for your reference. FluAdvisory

Thank you for your co-operation over the years and especially the last two weeks. Together, we can work towards creating a healthy and safe environment for our children.

P/S : Ms. Betty, our Kindergarten Class Teacher has returned to Singapore from the Philippines on 8 May, 2009. She had gone for a blood test on the morning of 11 May, 2009 which the results showed negative response to the Influenza A virus. Hence she is back in school.

28 April 2009 : Program & Curriculum Evaluation Form

The school wants to be an effective partner in your child’s development. In order for parents and the school to work hand in hand for the positive development of the child, regular and open communication between the school and parents is important. Please take time to complete the Program & Curriculum Evaluation survey which your child recently brought home. Your feedback, comments and suggestions are most welcomed. We will be compiling the results of the survey including highlighting comments and suggestions, answering question and clearing doubts by end May 2009.

20 Oct 2008 : Reminder of School Events via SMS

Since 20th Oct, 2008, we started an additional channel of sending reminders about school events - through SMS. Our existing system of notification by print and email will continue and precede the SMS reminders. The SMS messages will be sent through mobile phone number 97383124.

You are welcome to text us at this number to inform us of your child's condition (ie. going to be late/absent from school etc). This mobile phone will be turned on 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. However, it will be kept in the school’s office and answered only during school hours. You can continue to call us on the school's phone at 63922007 whenever necessary.

We hope this additional communication mode will help to facilitate your busy lifestyle.

20 Oct 2008 : Face book

The school has set up a Group in Face book by the name of "Halifax Montessori Album“ on 22nd Oct, 2008. By now, you should have received an invitation to join Facebook and the Group. Within the Group, you can post comments on the pictures and events, have a discussion with other parents, upload your photos and download the photos posted. We hope that this platform will help foster closer relationships within our Halifax Montessori community.
