Dear Parents,

Racial Harmony Day Celebration

Racial Harmony Day (种族和谐日) is celebrated annually on 21 July in Singapore to commemorate the 1964 Race Riots, which took place on 21 July 1964.  Racial Harmony Day is a day for children in schools to reflect on, and celebrate Singapore's success as a racially harmonious nation and society built on a rich diversity of culture and heritage.

On 21 July, 2010 (Wednesday), we would like to encourage all children to come to school dressed in traditional costumes other than their own race's e.g. if you are Chinese, dress your child in a Baju Kurung or a sari. We will have Racial Harmony Day celebration in school from 10am - 12.30pm.  The children will be experiencing various traditional games and activities.

To enhance the celebration, it is most appreciated if parents can contribute a dish from your culture or home country (for foreigners), so that our children can also experience cultural diversity through a culinary extravaganza. If you are contributing a dish containing meat, please note that we only serve fish and chicken in school. It will be beneficial to write a note about the dish you are contributing so that our teachers can inform the children about the dish and get to know your culture better. Please note that the school will still be providing lunch and hence the food contribution is encouraged but NOT compulsory. Full day program will resume after 12.30pm.

Thank you and best regards.

Yours Sincerely,
Maria Seow
