Dear Parents,
Excursion – 5th August, 2010 Historical Singapore and National Day celebration on 6th August (Reply Slip)
As we gear up to celebrate Singapore's 45th National Day, the school plans to take the children on a historical tour of Singapore. We will be touring the Colonial District by the Singapore River to learn about Singapore's beginning. The excursion will be on 5th August, 2010 (Thursday) 9.00am – 11.30am. Please note that this excursion has been brought forward by 1 day from our original plan.
To enhance the children's learning and experience, we have engaged a professional tour guide who will present the past through interesting anecdotes as she leads the children and teachers on a walking tour along a short section of the Singapore River near the Raffles landing site. The excursion will incorporate a tour to the Singapore River Gallery at the Asian Civilization Museum. The Singapore River Gallery tells the moving story of immigrants who once lived and worked along the Singapore River, from coolies' to Chettiars, the indigenous Orang Laut and the newly arrived Europeans. For our children, it will be an experiential encounter of a world completely different from theirs.
If it rains on the day of excursion, we will proceed with the trip but start with the Singapore River Gallery at the Asian Civilization Museum. If the rain stopped after the museum tour, we may then explore the riverside. I will assess the feasibility of situation on site. If we cannot stroll along the river after the Museum visit, we may spend our time at the other galleries in the museum which is age appropriate for our children or leave for school earlier.
Please complete the consent form for your child's participation in this excursion and return the form to us by Friday, 30th July, 2010. The cost of this excursion is $10 per child.
On the day of the excursion, please dress your child in the school's T-Shirt, equip him with a water bottle on a sling, a cap, a raincoat and comfortable walking shoes. Please ensure that your child is in school by 8.00am if he were to have breakfast in school and no later than 8.30am. The school bus will leave at 9.00am. and return to the school by 11.30am. Half day children will have their lunch before dismissal at 12.30pm and program for full day children will resume after lunch.
Thank you for your understanding and co-operation. We look forward to your favourable reply.
National Day celebration on 6th August
Please note that our excursion has been brought forward to 5th August, 2010 (Thursday), 1 day earlier than our original plan. This decision is made in consideration that we have not been able to carry out our school's sports day as planned. As the absentee children are starting to return to school, we are seeing an increase in attendance to about 80%. We thus feel that we should organise an extra National Day celebration party on 6th August, 2010 (Friday).
For the party, our teachers have planned some games, musical and art & craft activities to help the children better appreciate National Day.
Please dress your child in red top and white shorts/skirts on 6th August, 2010 (August) when they come to school. Half day children will have their lunch before dismissal at 12.30pm and program for full day children will resume after lunch.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Yours Sincerely,
Maria Seow
Principal
