Deepavali

30th September, 2009

Dear Parents,

Deepavali Celebration - postpone to 23rd October, 2009 (Reply Slip)

The approaching Deepavali (17th October, 2009) is the most celebrated of all Indian festivals. Also known as the ‘Festival of light’, Deepavali or Diwali is believed to be a time of transition from darkness to light and the victory of goodness over evil.

The school will be celebrating the festival with an evening event for our children and their families on 23rd October, 2009 Friday 6.00pm – 8.30pm at our school compound. We have decided to postpone the event, originally scheduled for 9th October, 2009 to 23rd October as there has been too many celebrations lately and we felt it will benefit the children if we spaced the events out. You are welcome to bring along your family members to this fun-filled cultural night event and get to know the teachers and other parents. We apologise for any inconveniences that may arise because of the change in date but we trust you understand our concerns.

Your children will be looking forward to the event because during the week leading up to our Deepavali event, the children will be involved in relevant cookery and art & craft activities to help them understand the festival. You will be able to view some of your child’s work during the event. Please dress your child (half day program) in ethnic Indian costume or bright coloured apparels for the party. For full day children, please pack the Indian outfit in their bags and our teachers will change them before the party.

We will have a child-friendly (non-spicy) Indian buffet and you are most welcome to contribute (optional, not compulsory) some dishes. A list of food suggestion will be made available to you soon but you are welcome to bring other dishes that DO NOT contain pork and beef. You will also be able to taste your child’s fruit of labour from their cookery sessions in school.

We look forward to seeing you and your family to our Deepavali Night event with lots of wholesome fun. Please use the attached reply slip to response.

Thank you and best regards.

Yours sincerely,
Maria Seow
