Parents are undoubtedly the 2 most important people in a child’s life and we want the children to be accustomed to showing their appreciation to their parents from a young age. Based on this objective, the school initiated two new events this year dedicated to playing tribute to all parents on Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day respectively. It is unfortunate that we had to cancel the Mothers’ Day celebration due to the flu situation but we are glad that the Parents’ Day events (a combination of Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day) went on as planned, in place of Fathers’ Day.
On the morning of 18th June, 2009, parents and children of Tangerine and Apple class started to stream into school at around 8.30am. Parents received prior information that their children will be serving them breakfast but were apprehensive if their little precious babies could deliver. Many were pleasantly surprised when the children started to bring them their cutleries nicely bundled with a hand-made napkin ring, offered them drinks and served them breakfast. The napkin rings were glued and made specially by the children - one for mummy and a different one for daddy. “Mummy, do you want Apple Juice or coffee?”, some children were overheard taking orders. Breakfast was Nasi Lemak with omelette and ikan bilis, freshly prepared by Ms. Hwee Fung and the school cook, Aunty Lim. The Student Care children were roped in to assist the little ones with pouring of drinks and food handling – they were the teachers’ enthusiastic and super helpers and great role models for the little ones.
It was obvious that the Tangerine and Apple Class children were proud and happy that they could serve their parents. Though some of the younger ones are still coping to walk with cups without spilling, their efforts are highly commendable. They were glad to settle down to a hearty breakfast with their parents instead of the usual group snack. The parents took the opportunity to socialize with each other and soon it was time to leave for work. Before departing, parents were presented with Cookies (Apple Class) and Cupcakes (Tangerine Class) which the children made on the previous day.
Thank you parents for taking time off your busy schedule to attend this special occasion. The children really appreciate your presence. The school wants to thank all parents for your support, understanding and co-operation.
