Sports Day : 18th July, 2009

Our school’s annual sports day will be held on 18th July, 2009 (Saturday) from 8.30am – 12.30pm, at our school compound. All children in the 4 classes (Tangerine, Apple, Watermelon and Student Care) will be involved in at least one sports event. The Kindergarten Class, in addition to the sports events will also be involved in a mass display. You are invited to grace this function and witness your children’s participation in fun-filled events. There will also be parent-child events to encourage family bonding and you are welcomed to sign-up.

We need parent’s consent for your children to take part in the school sports day and be involved in the sports events. The sports events are designed with the child’s developmental stages in mind and are age appropriate. The school will put in place as many safety precautions as we possibly can anticipate. All our teachers are trained and certified first aiders.

If your child is participating in the sports events, please dress him/her in the following coloured T-shirts based on their class, comfortable running shorts, socks and shoes.

We seek your cooperation to ensure that the dress code is strictly adhered to. This is for easy identification and administration of children.

Please note the following :

Racial Harmony Day : 21st July, 2009

Racial Harmony Day (种族和谐日) is celebrated annually on 21 July in Singapore to commemorate the 1964 Race Riots, which took place on 21 July 1964. Racial Harmony Day also represents a day for schools to reflect on, and celebrate Singapore's success as a racially harmonious nation and society built on a rich diversity of culture and heritage.

On 21 July, 2009 (Tuesday), we would like to encourage all children to come to school dressed in traditional costumes other than their own race’s e.g. if you are Chinese, dress your child in Baju Kurung or Sari but not Cheongsam and vice versa. We will have Racial Harmony Day celebration in school from 10am - 12.30pm. The children will be experiencing various traditional games and activities.

To enhance the celebration, it is most appreciated if parents can contribute a dish from your tradition or home country (for foreigners) so that our children can also experience cultural diversity through a culinary extravaganza. If you are contributing a dish containing meat, please note that we only serve fish and chicken in school. It will be beneficial to write a note about the dish you are contributing so that our teachers can inform the children about the dish and get to know your culture better. Please note that the school will still be providing lunch and hence the food contribution is NOT compulsory. Full day program will resume after 12.30pm.

Cancellation of Open House in October

With reference to our notice of 10 March 2009 with regards to Oct 17, 2009 being a gazetted public holiday (Deepavali) and our scheduled Open House has been affected as a result. We have decided to cancel the second Open House planned in October 2009. However, we will plan other activities for parents to be involved in the school and children. Details to be advised.

Singapore Children’s Society Flag Day : 3rd June, 2009

We were approached by the Singapore Children’s Society to help in their Flag Day Fund Raising and had agreed as this is a good opportunity to educate our children in being compassionate, helping the needy and being generous.

The teachers inculcated these values in the various classrooms prior to the Flag Day. On 3rd June 2009 (Wednesday), the children brought from home to put in the Flag Day coin bags and receive a sticker in appreciation of their good deed. We collected $71.60.

Thank you for your understanding, co-operation and assistant in the above project. We know that ultimately, the money comes from you so here is a big thank you for your generosity, on behalf of the Singapore Children’s Society.
