Excursion – 7th August, 2009 LTA Gallery

August is reserved for all things Singapore (our curriculum). As we gear up to celebrate our 44th National Day, the school plans to take the children to the LTA Gallery at Hampshire Road to experience the evolution of Singapore’s land transportation and have a glimpse into our future system. The excursion will be on 7th August, 2009 (Friday) 9.00am – 11.30am.

Our children will be guided through a journey; back into the past, to the present, and into the future in the 1-hour walkthrough. They will be able to:

• Catch a glimpse of land transport systems in the world’s major cities as well as Singapore’s own mode of transportations
• Travel to the past and experience the transportations during our pre-independence days
• Learn about the key milestones in Singapore’s land transport development and the challenges faced during the nation’s formative years
• Learn how the LTA manage road usage
• Enter the future and get a peek of what the transportation landscape might be like in 2030

Please complete the consent form for your child’s participation in this excursion and return the form to us by Monday, 20th July, 2009. The cost of this excursion is $5 per child.

On the day of the excursion, please dress your child in red T-Shirt and white shorts, equip him with a water bottle on a sling and comfortable walking shoes. Please ensure that your child is in school by 8.00am if he were to have breakfast in school and no later than 8.30am. The school bus will leave at 9.00am. and return to the school by 11.30am. Half day children will have their lunch before dismissal at 12.30pm.

Play-dates for Tangerine Class

Mother of Deea, Mrs. Prachi Malhotra, has proposed to start a class list for the Tangerine group amongst the parents so as to arrange play-dates for your children. She has proposed to have a play date once every two weeks on every second and fourth Saturday at Carlisle road, Mera Springs’ function room from 4pm-5pm.

“The whole idea of starting this play group is to let our children play together outside the school environment. We can organize painting sessions, story telling and dance sessions with the help of parents, we can help them learn how to share etc.” Prachi was quoted in a recent email to parents of children in the Tangerine class.

If you are keen to be included in this list, please send Mrs. Prachi an email and state :

* Name of your child
* Name of 1 parent (contact person)
* Telephone number
* Email address
* Enjoy and have fun

Dress Code for 12th August, 2009 (Wed) - Japanese outfit

Our curriculum for September is "All About Japan". Our teachers will introduce the children to as much information about Japan as we possibly can but nothing beats having a native Japanese showing us their way of life.

This idea has led Ms. Hwee Fung to invite her family friends, The Nishida Family, from Tokyo, Japan to Singapore. It is unfortunate that they cannot come in September as the school term in Japan starts at end August. The visiting Nishida family comprises of 3 generations – Grandma who is a lecturer in Tourism courses, Daughter who is a piano teacher and 8-year old granddaughter. They will bring with them some cultural artefacts and doll displays to showcase festivals in Japan in addition to more displays on loan from the Japanese Embassy in Singapore.

The Nishida family will visit the school on 12th August, 2009 (Fri) and transform a classroom into a Japanese living room. Our children will be treated to demonstration of traditional Japanese activities and try their hands at traditional Japanese games. To elevate the atmosphere of the day, it will be good if you can dress your child in Japanese costume.
