zoo13th Mar, 2009 : Singapore Zoo

To compliment the school‛s March curriculum of Wild Animals (Nursery & Kindergarten) and Pets (Playgroup), we have organised an excursion to the Singapore Zoo on 13th Mar, 2009 (Fri) 9.00am – 12.30pm.

The Nursery and Kindergarten children will be involved in a conducted tour to discover amazing facts of the marine animals that the Zoo has! They will learn about the food chain of the marine habitat, touch a polar bear‛s foot and hold a sea turtle specimen. They will also be able to see how different the penguins‛ feathers are from the other birds and catch a glimpse of the ‘mermaid‛ swimming gracefully underwater. After the tour, the children will be able to enjoy the zoo‛s latest animal show “The rainforest fights back”.

The Playgroup children will be taking a tram to the new Rainforest KidzWorld where they will get interactive at the Kampung House to discover what lurks in the cupboards, drawers and rooms. They will also say hello to the ponies and falabellas (the world‛s smallest breed of horses), goats, bunnies and guinea pigs.

After all the excitement, the two groups of children will meet for a picnic before heading back to school. This excursion will no doubt provide a real life experience to what the children learn in school.

Please complete the consent form for your child‛s participation in this excursion and return the form to the school. The cost of this excursion is $18 per child (Playgroup) and $20 per child (Nursery & Kindergarten).

On the day of the excursion, please dress your child in the school‛s T-Shirt, equip him with a water bottle with a sling, a cap and wear comfortable walking shoes. Please ensure that your child is in school not later than 8.30a.m. The school bus will leave at 9a.m. and return to the school by 12.30pm.

10th Feb, 2009 : “Go Daddy Go” Skit

The school arranged for an in-school skit performance on 10 Feb 2009 (Tue) at 10am. This skit entitled 'Go Daddy Go!' was performed by the Players Theatre. Our children thoroughly enjoyed the play except for 3 younger ones who were overwhelmed by the characters. The older children actively participated in the interactive play by answering questions and assisting the characters at the appropriate moments.

Through the 3 characters in the play, home safety messages were communicated to our children, which is in line with our February curriculum theme of "Families". When Billy, the unlucky and accident-prone boy, made a wish for his bad luck accidents to go away, his fairy god daddy appeared in his dream to help him realised that his accidents were not caused by bad luck but by his ignorance to danger. Billy then learnt safety tips from “Go Daddy”, such as :

Not climbing furniture which may result in accidents
• Not looking out of windows in tall buildings which may result in falls
• Pack up toys after play and not to leave them all over the floor to prevent trips
• Clean up spills immediately to prevent slipping
• No jumping on beds to prevent injuries
• No running with socks on smooth floors to prevent slips (don‛t wear socks indoor)
• No running in small areas such as bedroom to prevent collisions

Back in the classrooms, our teachers reiterated what the play highlighted, explored with them other dangers and enhanced their safety awareness knowledge. At home, parents can also remind your children about what they learnt from “Go Daddy Go” and be more mindful about safety and their behaviour. We trust these measures will help the children gain lasting lessons about spotting dangers in their environment and making the right decisions to safety and precautions.
