13th April, 2009 : Easter Celebration
montessori parents

The week leading to Easter Monday, 13th April, 2009 was a busy one. The children did art & craft activities creating bunny crafts and eggs. The teachers took the opportunities to inform them about the culture and activities in relation to Easter.

On Easter Monday, Tangerine children put on the cute felt Bunny bannerettes and learnt about eggs. They were showed raw eggs and witnessed the liquid form of the egg yolk and egg white. Then, they put another set of eggs to boil and tried their hands at peeling the hard-boiled eggs before eating the yummy egg. This activity aimed to help them conceptualise the abstractness of changing forms. Peeling the egg also helped to refine their fine motor skills and as a result, they gained a sense of independence and accomplishment. They later set down with Ms. Fiona to a game of differentiating colours with Easter eggs.

The Apple children made their own bunny head gears and bushy tail the previous week and could not wait to put them on. They also made rabbits out of recycled juice boxes. They then played party games, sang songs, danced and had a mini egg hunt in their classroom. There was lots of laughter throughout the session.

The Watermelon class children had a treasure hunt outdoor. They split up to look for hidden pieces of a broken giant egg and worked as a team to put all the broken pieces together, revealing a Chinese rhyme which they had learnt. It was hard work but fun as the children worked together to problem solve and learnt to work as a team. They then went back to their classroom for their Easter eggs which the teachers had prepared for them.

Lunch was the healthy version of tasty Sheppard’s Pie with added carrots, peas and corn and delicious school-made mushroom soup. It was a fun-filled and exciting Easter for all.
