Halifax Montessori Childcare is 20 years old in 2016!

To commemorate this milestone, a recipe book featuring 20 of the children’s favourite dishes is published.

This book tells of the love and care that the founder of the school and her team have put in for the children under their care. The story behind each dish is told and the way it is prepared is shared.

Parents, caregivers and our alumni have been asking for the recipes of many of there dishes. Finally, the ingredients and cooking process is revealed so that everyone in the family can enjoy the wholesome goodness that the children have savoured in school.

The book also features some of the cookery lessons that the children at the different levels had participated and enjoyed. There can be replicated at home for the benefit of the children.

The table top flip chart design of the book is convenient and practical. We will be launching the book at our up-coming concert ton 26 Nov, 2016 so you can get a copy at the entrance of the Theatre or email/call the school’s admin office to reserve your copy now.

About Us

Photograph of ballerinasHalifax Montessori Childcare Singapore is a preschool providing half and full day classes for the local and international community, in a bilingual environment. We have been established since 1996. Our school follows the educational philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori (1870 - 1952) and provides a holistic education at the following levels:

Playgroup programme (1.5 – 3 years old)

Nursery programme (3 – 4 years old)

Kindergarten programme (5 – 6 years old)

Before & After School Care (7 – 12 years old)

This renowned and time-proven method of teaching uses concrete hands-on teaching materials to help children learn and understand concepts. These progressive materials stimulate children to work, help expand their attention span, develop independence, self confidence and self esteem.

What Is The Montessori Method?

Photograph of Maria MontessoriThe Montessori Method, founded by Dr. Maria Montessori - a physician and psychiatrist, a hundred years ago in Europe, is a learning process where children are encouraged to develop at their own pace in a safe and caring environment. The Method is internationally renowned and has profoundly influenced early childhood education in many countries in the world.

Montessori advocated that education should be for independence, liberty and empowerment of the child, focusing on the development of the human personality and not solely the acquisition of information. Montessori education seeks to create a link between school, learning and society – encouraging initiative and independent learning and the development of self-discipline and responsible social behaviour. Adults can assist the growth by providing them with ample opportunities for work, play, pleasure and freedom to explore.

The use of concrete materials specially and beautifully designed to teach abstract concepts and operations is fundamental to the Montessori teaching method. As the teacher guides and monitors the children’s choice of material to work with, children can grasp abstract concepts and operations at their ease and with a high level of interest.

Director's Message

Thank you for your interest in our Montessori school.

I started the school in 1996 because I have a passion in working with children and thoroughly enjoy their company; watching them grow and blossom. As early childhood teachers, we carry with us important and heavy responsibilities as we are one of the child’s “development-facilitators” in their foundation years. My team and I believe in and will aim to uphold this sacred profession, through effective use of our five senses:

  1. Encouraging Voice - to Cheer and praise, be affirmative but non-labellingPhotograph of Ms. Hwee Fung director of Halifax Montessori
  2. Listening Ears - be sensitive to the child's needs and follow his/her cue
  3. Watchful Eyes - to look out for potential dangers and seize opportunities to demonstrate and highlight desirable or undesired behaviours
  4. Sniffing Nose - to sniff out danger and abnormalities
  5. Helpful Hands - to provide scaffolding at appropriate moments, a pat on the back and warm hug whenever necessary

In our Montessori school, we aim to inculcate in our children social, intellectual, emotional, physical and cultural skills which will prepare them for life long learning - adaptation and resilient to the changing environment. Established worldwide, thousands of children all over the world have benefited from the Montessori Method. Graduates from our school have a history of doing well in our local education system. This is due to the concrete foundation they received here at Halifax Montessori Childcare.

You are welcome to visit our school to have a better understanding of our curriculum and programme. We look forward to meet you and your child.
